This Sunday's choral evensong (5-6pm) at The Chapel of St Peter and St Paul at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, welcomes not only the resident college choir of Trinity Laban, but also the Croydon SDA Gospel Choir directed by Ken Burton for a special service featuring the world premiere of Jonathan Dove's new anthem, I saw a new heaven. The work, for SSATB and organ will be accompanied by Alexander Knight.
Drawing on Revelation 21: 1-4 – Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth”, this 6 minute anthem brings together the themes of consolation and hopehas been commissioned by the Manchester-based Gettalife Project, a charity set up to mentor young people and address root causes of the many challenges they face today and discover life opportunities through creativity. As a project legacy, Gettalife would like Jonathan’s anthem to inspire other innovative ‘gathered choir’ performances around the UK and to engender a much-needed positive spirit of understanding and collaboration within communities.
Entry is free, but donations to the cause are much appreciated.
Also, given the London Marathon taking place the same day, plan your travel in advance!
