A prestigious commission from the American Guild of Organists for Jonathan Dove premieres this week at their Biennial National Convention in St Louis, Missouri. Jonathan will join the convention with more than 1000 attendees expected to attend. The 15’ new work Toccata, Birdsong and Jig will be performed by organist and composer Chelsea Chen on Thursday July 9.
Jonathan’s formative musical experiences were as an organist as a teenager at his local catholic church. "I wrote my earliest mass setting there and was always thrilled to play Widor’s Toccata at weddings. I practiced diligently, but it took me a long time to master Bach’s pedal parts. At the end of services, I often found it easier simply to make something up on the spot."
Mid-States Sheet Music on behalf of Edition Peters, the Steinway Paino Gallery of St Louis and the Allen Organ Company are proudly welcoming Jonathan to their booth at the convention for a signing session. New organ publications, along with choral works by Jonathan Dove, will be available for browsing and purchase.
