May and June are going to be adventurous at Theater Erfurt: Jonathan Dove’s first German-speaking family opera In 80 Tagen um die Welt (Around the world in 80 days) based on the novel by Jules Vernes, celebrates its German Premiere on May 9, followed by five more performances up until June 13.
Jonathan Dove and librettist Peter Lund conjure the world of Phileas Fogg’s adventure to circumnavigate the globe in 80 days. In this version a boy named Max, who loves to read, finds himself as Passepartout in the middle of Verne’s travel story.
Musical director Clemens Fieguth and the creative team with Nina Kühner (stage director), Nina Peller (stage design) and Benita Roth (costumes) created a new production that promises versatile fun for audiences of all ages.
And the adventure is going to continue in Berlin this autumn. From November 2026 to April 2027, Passepartout and Phileas Fogg are taking their adventure to Deutsche Oper Berlin.
