On Thursday July 3, the new work The Water Remembers by Jonathan Dove,written for Ben Goldscheider (horn) and Richard Utley (piano) premieres at Spitalfields Music Festival.
Commissioned by Spitalfields Music for its 2025 Festival, with the support of the New Music Commission Fund the five-minute work evokes the myth of Narcissus and Echo, with each of the horn’s phrases mirrored by its own reflection, subtly varied by the water’s ripples.
Later that evening Jonathan Dove premieres his set of six meditations for piano Late Night Music which explore stillness. The audience are encouraged to relax with beanbags available to lie on.
Jonathan repeats his performance at JAM on the Marsh on Saturday July 5.
Earlier in the evening Britten Sinfonia conducted by John Frederick Hudson play the orchestral version of his string quartet Out of Time.
