Ørjan Matre’s residency with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra continues in the 2026/2027 season with the world premiere of Attmed. Commissioned and written for violinist and virtuoso on the Hardanger fiddle Ragnhild Hemsing, Attmed combines the worlds of classical music and Norwegian folk tradition with the soloist playing both the solo violin and the Hardanger fiddle.
The Hardanger fiddle is the Norwegian national folk instrument, which distinguishes itself from the violin by its characteristic resonant and shimmering sound. Throughout the work, the solo parts move closer to one another – at the beginning they resemble two interwoven solo parts that are interwoven with only little similarities, but at the end, the material begins to flow from one instrument to another.
The world premiere performance is conducted by Nicholas Collon and also includes the Spring Dance and Solitary Traveler from Matre’s Lyric Pieces.
