Rune Glerup returns this autumn with a cello concerto written for Andreas Brantelid. The work will receive its world premiere on 8 November 2025 performed by the Danish Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Christian Reif.

Titled Om det der forsvinder (Of what disappears), the work is co-commissioned by the Danish Chamber Orchestra and the Odense Symphony Orchestra, the concerto will be performed again later in Odense. At the heart of the new work is the idea of transiences and rememberance.

Glerup writes about the work:

“The fleeting, the light, the brightness, the immediate, the simple, that which disappears. That which vanishes every single moment. A thought, a memory, a tone, a mood, a zeitgeist. A person. Things that disappear, dissolve into nature, are thrown away, forgotten, evaporate. Everything around us that exists is also constantly disappearing, at different speeds. This transience is the focal point of my cello concerto. The fleeting, the lightness in expression, but also the melancholy of saying goodbye. Music itself is also fleeting and disappears, yet it can simultaneously freeze moments in memory, moments one can return to, like traces in time.”

Glerup’s previous orchestral work, Om Lys og Lethed (About Light and Lightness), a violin concerto written for Isabelle Faust and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, was awarded the Nordic Music Prize in 2024.
