Unesta tehty mies (A Man Made of Dreams), a new feature documentary about the Finnish composer Aulis Sallinen, will be released in cinemas across Finland on November 13 2026.

Directed by the composer’s grandsons, twin brothers Emil and Artur Sallinen, the film weaves together Sallinen’s life and the story of his breakthrough opera The Horseman (Ratsumies), which premiered in 1975 and quickly became a national success. It features excerpts from the Finnish National Opera’s 2025 production, filmed dramatisations of different periods in the composer’s life, and archive footage and interviews. What begins as a family portrait grows into an exploration of the Finnish people and their spiritual core, asking: what is our eternal Finnish story, and can it change?

Before the general release, the film will screen at the Elävienkuvien teatteri in Forssa from November 7 to 11, with the directors in attendance. Press screenings take place in Helsinki on November 3 and in Tampere on November 9, and the directors will visit cinemas across Finland from early November.

Aulis Sallinen’s music is published by Novello & Co, part of Wise Music Group.
