Ørjan Matre’s residency at Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra opens with world premiere

With the world premiere of Freude (German for joy) Ørjan Matre is presented as composer-in-residence at Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra on September 04 & 05. His residency will last for two years until 2027 and will feature nine performances of existing and new works in the 2025/2026 season.

Freude, an 8-minute piece for mixed choir and orchestra, is a prelude to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, which will follow the debuting work. The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra will be joined by Bergen Philharmonic Choir, both led by Jan Willem de Vriend.
