Ten years since its composition In the Highest by John Tavener will receive it’s world premiere on 12 February. The premiere will be given by the Scottish Ensemble, the group for whom it was written, but sadly not with the soloist who was to be Larry Adler, the world-famous harmonica player. Adler was suffering ill health in 2001 when he asked Tavener to write a piece for him. The work, for harmonica, large tam-tam, large Tibetan temple bowl and strings was composed, but sadly Larry died before the premiere could take place. In the Highest has subsequently been revised - the solo line can now also be taken by a violin, and it is in this version that audiences will finally be able to hear the premiere of the piece in February at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The solo line will be played by the Ensemble’s Artistic Director and Leader, Jonathan Morton.

Also in the programme is Tavener’s The Protecting Veil with soloist Natalie Clein and Ikon of Light which will be performed with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
