Hania Rani will perform the Polish and German premiere of her work Non Fiction: Piano Concerto In Four Movements, on June 4 in Katowice at Tauron New Musica Festival with the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra and on June 15 in Berlin with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, under the baton of Marek Mos. Rani will be supported by saxophonist Jack Wyllie.
Non Fiction is based on composition sketches of a young music prodigy, Josima Feldschuh, written during the horrors of World War II in the Warsaw Ghetto. “I was given the opportunity to explore Josima’s compositions, and to my surprise, we shared a similar musical language”, says Rani. In her piano concerto, she investigates the constant coexistence of harmony and disorder, creating a sonic metaphor for the survival of the human spirit when faced by incredible violence.
I’m not sure if music possesses the physical power to abolish political systems or conceal injustice, but I feel it has the unique ability to uncover ideas and emotions in a direct, inclusive way. Its unquestionable emotional value speaks intimately to our memory, pushes it to the front of our minds and gives us the agency to empathise with others, creating a sense of community.

Her work for ensemble Shining will receive its Polish premiere on June 8, performed by the Hashtag ensemble in Warsaw. The work is inspired by the novel "A Shining" by Jon Fosse. It deals with a man getting lost in a forest during the night. Rani says: "It is written in the style of a stream of consciousness, in the first person, distributed over 42 pages, without any pause or stop. It's breathless, fleshly, always moving ahead and extremely musical."
Non Fiction and Shining were premiered in November 2025 with the Manchester Collective and Hugh Tieppo-Brunt at the Barbican, London.
