Thursday 11 June 2026, the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra presents a portrait concert of Lil Lacy, celebrating her residency as composer in residence with the orchestra from 2024 to 2027.
As composer in residence, Lil Lacy has worked closely with the musicians of the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra. This portrait concert brings together three orchestral works that have grown out of this ongoing dialogue.
The programme includes Di drømm dæ bringe vos sammel (Or in English: 'The dreams that bring us together') inspired by the landscape, history and collective memory of the region. The work explores how local dialects, tradition and shared experience can be transformed into orchestral sound and become a unifying artistic force.
Also featured is Lil Lacy's first flute concerto, Fluidity of Matter and Life featuring Thomas Jensen, principal flautist of the orchestra as soloist. explores the transformations of water from ice to liquid and gas, through inspired by nature phenomena in Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark, weaving this into the cyclical flow of a human life; the journey from birth to old age, exploring time, memory and intergenerational connection through a fluid and evolving orchestral form.
The evening culminates with the world premiere of Lil Lacy’s symphony, ELEMENTS, all conducted by the orchestra’s new Chief Conductor Christian Øland.
Lil Lacy says:
Working closely with an orchestra over several years is a dream come true and allows for a level of artistic depth that cannot emerge from single commissions. I am very proud that this portrait concert brings together different facets of my musical language and reflects what can unfold over time with ongoing dialogues, shared artistic experiences and growing trust and sensitivity between composer and orchestra. I am deeply grateful to the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra and its musicians for this collaboration.
A podcast series documenting Lil Lacy's collaboration with the Danish Philharmonic Orchestra is released by The Lake Radio.
