How does a classical composer integrate an improvising jazz trumpeter into the fabric of an orchestra? Composer Fabrice Bollon and jazz musician Sebastian Studnitzky explore this question in their joint project In Miles’ Aura, which premieres on April 30 with the Staatskapelle in Halle (Saale).
With this work for solo jazz trumpet and orchestra they are honoring the centenary of the great jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. The title not only refers to him and his extraordinary musical personality but also to his Grammy-winning album Aura (1989).
Bollon and Studnitzky connect through their compositional styles, transcending genre boundaries and embracing today’s diverse musical environment.
