Guitarist Sean Shibe premieres Carola Bauckholt’s new work diving rod on January 10 at the Southbank Centre, London. Traditionally, a divining rod is a tool that is used to find subtle energies or veins of water in the ground. As soon as a hidden source is located, the rod starts to swing in the hands of the seeker. The electric guitar is very similar; it’s a rod strung with strings that react with extreme sensitivity to touch.

Diving rod was commissioned by the Southbank Centre and is dedicated to Sean Shibe who is a Southbank Centre Resident Artist for Classical Music in the 2025/2026 season.
