Bernhard Gander’s latest solo work for trombone Messing 1 receives its first performance during a solo recital on November 28 by Mikael Rudolfsson. Title, rhythm and melody are all reflecting the compound and treatment of Messing, which is the material brass instruments are made of. The periodic numbers of the elements copper and zinc, who alloy to Messing, build the rhythmic and formal structure; bending and hammering, which is necessary to transform the material, are reflected in the melodic motifs.
