Bridge Records has released a new CD box set featuring the complete symphonies of Poul Ruders, written between 1989 and 2021.
The recordings bring together new and previous recordings of performances by the Odense Symphony Orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Leif Segerstam, Michael Schønwandt, Christopher Lichtenstein, Scott Yoo, and Olari Elts.
Reflecting on the release, Ruders comments:
It’s not every day a living and breathing composer enjoys the enormous privilege of having the collected recordings of his symphonies released and presented in a complete CD box set. But thanks to the courageous and endlessly innovative New York-based quality label Bridge Records, that’s exactly what’s happened to me. Needless to say, I’m one happy – and grateful – composer, and I want to thank profusely, not only Becky and David Starobin, the driving forces behind Bridge Records, but also the two top-class symphony orchestras performing the pieces, the Odense Symphony Orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
The set gives a complete view of Ruders’ symphonic writing over three decades. From the explosive energy of his early works to the refined complexity of his later compositions and includes the first recording of his Sixth Symphony that premiered with Odense Symphony Orchestra last year.
