Horn Concerto Premieres

Stefan Dohr will give the World Premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Horn Concerto with the Orchestre de Paris conducted by the composer on August 30 at Lucerne Festival. Following the World Premiere, Salonen, Dohr and the Orchestre de Paris will perform the work on tour to Berlin and Hamburg before giving the French premiere on April 26 2026 at Philharmonie Paris. The US Premiere, commissioned by Boston Symphony Orchestra, will take place with Salonen at the helm on February 12 2026.

The Horn Concerto is commissioned by Lucerne Festival, Finnland-Institut and Berliner Festspiele / Musikfest Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Fondazione Teatro alla Scala.

Artist in Residence at Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra

Salonen will join violinist Janine Jansen as Artist in Residence with Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra for their Berwaldhallen season 2025/26.

Salonen is no stranger to the orchestra having been its Principal conductor from 1984 to 1995. He co-founded the annual Baltic Sea Festival in 2003 with Michael Tyden and Valery Gergiev. Fittingly, on 7th September, the Baltic Sea Festival presents Salonen conducting SRSO in a programme including Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs with soprano Asmik Grigorian.

Salonen’s own compositions will feature throughout the 25/26 season. In November Nicholas Collon conducts the orchestral tour de force Gemini which started life as two pieces: Pollux (2018) and Castor (2019) which unsurprisingly can be played together as Gemini. In December, Salonen himself conducts the Swedish Premiere of Tiu, his latest work for orchestra, the choral work Donna Nobis Pacem and Stockholm Diary, the piece he wrote for the SRSO in 2004.

In April 2026 Maxim Emelyanychev will conduct Nyx, Salonen’s work from 2011 which explores the legend of Nyx, the shadowy figure in Greek mythology. Finally in June 2026 Nicolas Alstaedt performs Salonen’s Cello Concerto conducted by Salonen’s Finnish compatriot Susanna Mälkki.
