The world premiere of Leaving behind… by Erkki-Sven Tüür for piano and string orchestra takes place with the East West Chamber Orchestra and pianist Rostislav Krimer, who will be conducting from the piano. This performance is part of the Opening Gala “Ode to Peace” of the East-West-Festival on October 10 at Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal.
The composer says that the music expresses the different and complex feelings one goes through when something dramatically life changing happens. ‘The loss of a beloved one. Escape from the homeland. And many more, all these situations are always connected with the most violent actions in the history of mankind, called war. The cruel, absurd and inhuman way of making politics.’ The music should also serve as a prayer for ‘those suffering souls.’
Leaving behind… was commissioned by Rostislav Krimer and East-West Chamber Orchestra.
