The prestigious music label Sony Classical has released a CD with two world premiere recordings of Symphony no. 4 and Symphony no. 9 by UME composer Angel Illarramendi. Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi (Basque Symphony Orchestra), conducted by José Miguel Pérez-Sierra and with mezzo-soprano Maite Arruabarrena recorded these works during last spring in the city of San Sebastián.
Angel Illarramendi’s compositions unite the traditional resonances of Basque music with an extraordinary technique and an innate sense for writing music that resembles poetry. On 18th February, Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, will also offer a world premiere of Illarramendi’s overture Zarautz. This outstanding work dedicated to his hometown, a beautiful coastal town in the Basque country, will also be performed on 9th June in Madrid by Orquesta Clásica de Santa Cecilia.
