Magna Carta 2015

Magna Carta 2015
2015 marks the 800th anniversary of the 1215 Magna Carta, one of history’s most important legal documents and the basis of English law. Two Music Sales composers have been commissioned to write works to mark this occasion – Tarik O’Regan and Nico Muhly
Salisbury Cathedral is home to the finest of the four surviving original 1215 Magna Carta and to celebrate this O’Regan has been commissioned by the cathedral to write a c.30 minute work for vocal soloists, choir and chamber orchestra, A Letter of Rights. The text was commissioned from Alice Goodman and the work will receive its world premiere at the cathedral 13 June 2015, with a US premiere to follow before the end of the year.

Our Present Charter is a c.15 minute, four-movement work by Muhly which premiered at Temple Church, London in December 2014. It was commissioned by the Temple Music Trust for the Choir of the Temple Church. This too will tour the USA during 2015.
