Santa Fe Opera to premiere Theodore Morrison's 'Oscar'
G. Schirmer is pleased to announce our role as publishers of Theo Morrison's forthcoming opera, Oscar, one of Santa Fe Opera's newest commissions. Jointly commissioned with Opera Company of Philadelphia, Oscar's libretto is co-authored by John Cox and the composer. The opera premieres in July 2013 starring countertenor David Daniels as Oscar Wilde. Characters in the opera include Wilde's friends and supporters Ada Leverson (sung by Heidi Stober), Frank Harris (sung by William Burden), and Walt Whitman (sung by Dwayne Croft). Lord Alfred Douglas is portrayed by a dancer. Kevin Newbury will direct the production.

Theodore Morrison is a respected composer and conductor of vocal and instrumental works whose music has been performed throughout North America, and in Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. Famed stage director John Cox has been Morrison's collaborator in the development of Oscar. Cox began his professional career at Glyndebourne in 1959 and served as its Director of Productions throughout the 70s. During his long career he has been associated with virtually every important opera company in the world, as well as directing stage and television.Photo: Oscar Wilde, portrait by Napoleon Sarony in 1882
