Programme Note

‘Three Thrashy Threads’ for ensemble is a composition predominantly in triple rhythm. In three different parts (threads), the triple rhythm is processed in different textures. This simple, easily audible rhythm is subordinated to complicated metric units of melodies and riffs in odd time signatures of 53/8, 43/8 and 31/8, which in turn are juxtaposed with even-numbered patterns of 52/8, 42/8 and 30/8, whereby minimal shifts in the pulse centre occur throughout.

As an audible result, the seemingly complex rhythmic structure is swallowed up by the easily perceptible 3 groove.
