Programme Note
I like stories. The generative idea for my piano concerto Jagged Ladder, written in 2024, concerns experience and transformation. The origin of the sonic universe of this piece is the solo piano, from whence the orchestral emanations derive. The solo piano voice is in a sense a kind of pilgrim, travelling through a series of environments in which to interact, observe and reflect. The path is uneven, sometimes hostile, other times generous, but always jagged.
