Programme Note

The piece Fluidity of Matter and Life is inspired by natural phenomena of water in transformation in Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark, as well as an ode to the journey through life and a celebration of lived experience.

The piece is inspired by the experience of a life, a lifetime of experience, a celebration of wisdom through lived life. The first part of the piece represents the time before one is born; the journey of the soul and the development of pregnancy and actual birth.
From letter F and onwards every 15 seconds resembles approx. 1 year of lived life from age 0 to 80+ years – in a, from the composer’s side, free interpretation of the energy, development, complexity, tempo and inner reflection of a life. The last part of the piece (from letter L1) leads into a reflection of the past; remembering, feeling and understanding the past experiences of life in a new light or a broader perspective, as a celebration of the wisdom gained through a lived life – maybe heading into the future, the beyond, making a complete circle of life and energy.

Many young people feel isolated, left alone and detached from others. I hope we will remember the wisdom we can gain from dialogues between generations (not judging the different perspectives but simply listening and sharing). Each life, perspective, reality and time of a generation changes. If we share with care, the perspectives can make us all wiser and experience connection across lifetimes, history, generations, cultures and places.

Parallel to this journey through life, the piece explores the materiality of water as: solid (ice), gas (a stream evaporating into the air) and liquid (rain and ocean tides) - in natural phenomena that I have experienced during 2024-2025 in Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark. To explore the audiovisual inspirations from these natural phenomena deeper, please go to digital performance notes to find the following videos, or click on them directly here:
