Programme Note
A Shepherd’s Carol is a 4-minute work for unison upper voices and chamber organ with optional parts for lower voices (ATB). As a setting of George Herbert’s ‘The 23d Psalme’, it is appropriate for performance at any time of year. Characterized by a dance-like rhythm that gives way occasionally to reflect particular verses from the psalm, this is a delightful and immediately appealing piece.
