Coronation Sanctus was commissioned on behalf of The King by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. This version for double choir and orchestra was commissioned by The Choral Arts Society of Washington, made possible by Caryn Fraim and Tad Czyzewski. First performed by the BBC Singers and BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop, on 9 September 2023 at the Last Night of the Proms, Albert Hall, London. First US performance given by The Choral Arts Society of Washington, conducted by Marin Alsop, on 8 November 2023 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington DC.

Programme Note

Coronation Sanctus by Roxanna Panufnik was commissioned on behalf of The King by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on 6th May 2023. It is a 2-minute piece for double choir and organ described by Roxanna Panufnik as “festive and glittering”. The music quickly builds and finishes ecstatically, with organ fanfares and flamboyantly colourful harmonies.
