Commissioned by Dr Kamal and Mrs Anna Ahuja in memory of Professor Sir Christopher Dobson, Master, St John’s College, Cambridge 2007–2019 and first performed by the Choir of St John’s College Cambridge on 15 October 2022.

ST JOHN’S SERVICE The St John’s Service was commissioned by Dr Kamal and Mrs Anna Ahuja in memory of Professor Sir Christopher Dobson, who was the Master of St John’s College, Cambridge 2007-2019.
It was first performed in St John’s College chapel on 15th October 2022.
Director of Music Andrew Nethsinga asked for the work to have a lively, flamboyant organ part, and be fun to sing and to listen to.
The Magnificat is an ecstatic dance with seven lively beats to the bar, while seven slower beats give a gentle lilt to the serene Nunc Dimittis.
