Programme Note

Snow is an original setting of a beautiful poem by Garth Bardsley, who says: ‘The muted and mesmerising world following a fall of snow, is captured exquisitely in this truly beautiful setting.’

First performance was given on 1st December 2017 by Loughborough School Choirs, directed by Alex Osiatynski.

Soft comes the morning
Amidst the stillness of snow.
Silently, this heavenly down
Bedecks, in white, the world below.

This silvery shroud, holds my eye,
Whilst my foggy breath hangs fast,
Iced, mid-air, by winter’s chill
Lacelike in its crystalline cast.

Yielding to every furrow and fold
Gilded by sun, this dappled white
Swathes the scarred and wounded earth,
Blessing all with healing light.
