Thunderous ascending scales in the bass gradually accelerate into a moto perpetuo that persists until, right before the end, it is splintered apart by the interjection of recitative-like material (a strategy borrowed from Bach’s C-minor keyboard Toccata BWV 911).

Diablo Canyon is a nuclear power plant situated along the Pacific Coast in San Luis Obispo County, California. Its two 1,100 megawatt generators serve more than 1.6 million homes.
