Commissioned by Philharmonie Essen, Westdeutscher Rundfunk and Bernhard Haas. First performed by Bernhard Haas on 8 November 2020 at the Philharmonie Essen, as part of the festival NOW! – due to the COVID-19 pandemic the concert was live-streamed without an audience present. The first public performance took place on 25 June 2022 at the Martinskirche, Kassel, as part of the festival BRANDNEU – International Organ Summer 2022.
Programme Note
De Ira / Parables of Lucid Dreaming II is an 18-minute virtuosic work for solo organ, a dense texture of sound fragments in intricate polyrhythmic interplay across the instrument’s range. It was composed in 2019 for organist Bernhard Haas and was premiered by him via livestream at the festival NOW! at the Philharmonie Essen on 8 November 2020. The first public performance took place on 25 June 2022 at the Martinskirche, Kassel, as part of the festival BRANDNEU.
