Programme Note
Song of the Shepherds was commissioned by Little Saint Mary's Church, Cambridge, in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the birth of the poet Richard Crashaw, who was a priest at the church from 1638 to 1643. The first performance was given by the Choir of Little Saint Mary's, dirrected by Simon Jackson, Little St Mary's, Cambriedge, 12 Aprils 2013.
The words are taken from 'In the Holy Nativity of Our Lord a Hymn Sung as by the Shepherds' by Richard Crashaw (1613–1649).
Song of the Shepherds is recorded by The Sixteen, conducted by Harry Christophers, and is available on CD and as a digital download on the album 'Song of the Nativity' on the CORO label (COR16146).
