Daedalus's Lament
- Peters Edition Limited (World)
Programme Note
Daedalus’s Lament for cor anglais and harp was written in 2001 for Okeanos with support from the David James Music Trust. It was designed to function as a stand- alone piece or to follow Sky-Maze with Song Shards and was inspired by Michael Ayerton’s drawings and sculptures showing Daedalus lamenting the loss of his son Icarus. It can be understood as consisting of three arias separated by two recitatives, each ending with increasingly intense references to Sky-Maze with Song Shards
Daedalus’s Lament was premiered on 7 March 2002 at Manchester University by Okeanos Jinny Shaw cor anglais and Lucy Wakeford harp).
