Prelude (In Memoriam Karrlin Field)

This piece was written in February 2005 in memory of Karrlin Field (1987–2004), who I was fortunate enough to meet on two visits to her home in 1996 and 2003. I was deeply impressed by her indomitable and generous spirit, and it was this that inspired the capricious material with which the work begins, and which returns transformed into lyrical fragments following the short aggressive climactic section.

The piece was premiered on 15 March 2005 at the Guildford Festival by Clive Williamson as part of his One Minute Wonder project.
