Out of the Deep

This a cappella setting of verses from Psalm 130, OUT OF THE DEEP was first performed by the National Youth Chamber Choir at the inaugural Holy Week Festival at St John’s Smith Square, London on 12th April 2017, curated by Tenebrae. The minor modal melody and underlying harmony is taught and angular, as befits the initially unsettling text, yet as the verses turn to hope and optimism, the modality shifts to the major and ends on a positive Tierce de Picardy.
