Viel Freuden mit sich bringet
Die fröhlich Sommerzeit.
Im grünen Wald jetzt singet
Wiedrum vor Fröhlichkeit
Ohn' Unterlass mit hellem Schall
Aus ihrem Hälslein zart
Sehr schön und fein Frau Nachtigall;
Kein Müh noch Fleiß sie spart.

Des Nachts, wenn ist vorüber
Der andern Vöglein G´sang,
So schwingt sie ihr Gefieder
Und singt mit lautem Klang.
Bald auf das neu gar hübsch und fein,
Bis dass anbricht der Tag.
Ihr wunderschöne Melodein
Kein Mensch beschreiben mag.

Mit ihrem schönen Singen
Bewegt sie manchem sein Herz
Daß er vor Freud möcht springen
Das sag ich ohn allen Scherz
Unter allen Waldvögelein
Sie sein groß oder klein,
Ihr keines gleich tut sein
Der Ruhm bleibt ihr allein.

The happy summer season
brings much pleasure.
Now in the green forest
the nightingale sings again
with joy without ceasing,
with a clear sound
from her tender little throat;
she spares no effort or diligence.

At night, when the song of the other birds has passed,
she flaps her feathers
and sings with a loud sound.
Soon it will be very pretty and fine again
until the day breaks.
Her wonderful melody
cannot be described by anyone.

With her beautiful singing
she moves many a heart
so that they want to jump for joy.
I say this without any jest.
Among all the forest birds,
whether they be big or small,
there is none that can match her. Fame remains hers alone.
