Fanfare for a New Theatre (1999)

In 1999 I was asked to write a fanfare to celebrate the opening of the new Milton Keynes Theatre. I was enthusiastic for several reasons: coming from a family of architects, the idea of a new building has always excited me: as a composer of theatre-music, I was also excited by the thoughts of all the plays that might be performed in this new theatre; and above all, here was a theatre designed for music-making, and to be the home of the city’s orchestra. So this fanfare celebrates a theatre that is home for musicians and for music.
