      Programme Note

      Composed in 1937–1938, Thirty Pieces for Children, Op. 27 is a collection of short piano pieces written by Dmitri Kabalevsky with a pedagogical purpose. The work was conceived to provide young pianists with musically rich pieces adapted to their technical development, while introducing them to different aspects of piano playing and musical expression.

      The thirty miniatures are organised in a progressive order, gradually introducing new technical and expressive challenges. Through a variety of characters, including dances, lyrical pieces, humorous episodes, and narrative miniatures, Kabalevsky explores a wide range of moods while maintaining clear melodies and accessible musical language.
