Programme Note

Torture is without a question the cruelest, the ugliest and the most unfathomable of crimes; the magic wand that could abolish this outrage once and for all would be a priceless possession. Alas, cruel reality prevails. For the 199x-film (directed by Astrid Henning-Jensen) about the IRCT, Danish composer and trumpeter Palle Mikkelborg composed a beautiful and dignified theme, and I have composed this brief symphonic vision “around” this Mikkelborg theme. Music itself is obviously incapable and powerless against brutality and torture – but I still found it compelling to use my voice, my vocation and expression: not to be silent.

This piece is dedicated to IRCT.
