Nymphea Reflection by Kaija Saariaho in Washington

Nymphea Reflection for string orchestra is based on Kaija Saariaho’s earlier string quartet Nymphéa. It has been written in 2001 and was premiered at the Schleswig Holstein Festival on request of Christoph Eschenbach to whom the work is dedicated.
The American Premiere will take place on 17 October 2002 with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington under the direction of Leonard Slatkin. The orchestra will tour the work to New York a few days later.
Within the first 15 months of its world premiere Nymphea Reflection has received many performances in France, Finland, Italy, UK and future performances will take place in Sweden, Finland and Germany.
