From October 30 to November 30, Vienna is dedicating a month to contemporary music. This year’s program includes two premieres by Edition Peters composers.
On November 10, pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard and SWR Experimentalstudio present the Austrian premiere of …selig ist… by Mark Andre. The full-length piece represents a music of disappearance and moves in those moments when sound borders on silence. Andre’s composition approaches a quote from Matthew 5:4 - "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" in remembrance for a deceased child.
Later, on November 14, the joint work UTFLUKT by Carola Bauckholt (composition), Elizabeth Hobbs (video), Jennifer Torrence (concept & performance) and Ellen Ugelvik (concept & performance) receives its world premiere at Dschungel Vienna. With their performance, co-authors Torrence and Ugelvik tell the story of two friends, that go on a trip to a lake where they find a raft that is a grand piano. Together they explore the raft and the environment. This exploring approach is also reflected in the composition in terms of the interaction of sound, animation and performance.
