The Royal Danish Orchestra and chief conductor Marie Jacquot open the season with Three Pieces for Orchestra by Hans Abrahamsen.
Following their opening concert on 19 August at DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen, they will continue through Europe to Concertgebouw, Amsterdam on 21 August and Menuhin Festival, Gstaad on 22 August.
Three Pieces for Orchestra was commissioned by Berliner Philharmoniker and dedicated to Sir Simon Rattle who took the piece on his farewell tour in 2018.
It is part of 10 Pieces for Orchestra (2020) which consists of:
- Four Pieces for Orchestra - No. 1-4 (2003)
- Three Pieces for Orchestra - No. 5-7 (2017)
- 10 Pieces for Orchestra - No. 8 - 9 (2020)
- 10 Pieces for Orchestra - No. 10 (2020)
Based on his 10 Studies for Piano (1984-98), Abrahamsen's 10 Pieces for Orchestra was first performed in its entirety by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor Fabio Luisi in 2021.
Turning 75 next year, Hans Abrahamsen will be widely celebrated in the 2026/27 and 2027/28 seasons. Stay tuned for futher updates and news.
