On July 19th, John Corigliano was recognized as the guest of honor at the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ)’s 20th Anniversary Gala, where he received the FIMUCITÉ Award for his outstanding contributions to the world of film scoring.
The FIMUCITÉ - Antón García Abril Award was created in 2009, and celebrates the work of composers and industry professionals whose work in film scoring has significantly impacted the field, and played a key role in sharing knowledge about the art form. As a recipient, Corigliano joins a roster of such composers as John Williams, Alex North, and Elliot Goldenthal, among others.
The evening also included a concert program featuring Corigliano’s iconic Chaconne for Violin and Orchestra from his Oscar-winning score for The Red Violin (1998), here performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and led by Diego Navarro.
In the words of music producer Robert Townson from his comments that night, John Corigliano’s music, "has challenged us, inspired us, devastated us, and uplifted us. It has reminded us that great film music can aspire not only to accompany images, but to endure as great music."
