For the first time, the NDR (northern German broadcaster) appointed an ‘NDR Artist Across Ensembles’: Missy Mazzoli.
Her music will be featured in six concerts in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and she will be involved with creative and programmatic planning for the four NDR ensembles: NDR Elbphilharmonie and NDR Radiophilharmonie orchestras, NDR Vokalensemble, and NDR Bigband. Mazzoli and NDR aim to engage a diverse audience and address the relevance of music in times that are characterised by profound political, social and medial shifts.
The composer says: “I'm thrilled to be an Artist Across Ensembles with four of the NDR Ensembles. It's an honour to have this position and to share so many different aspects of my work with a brand-new audience.”
During her time with NDR, Mazzoli will compose a work for pianist Leif Ove Andsnes who will be artist in residence with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester in season 2026/27. She will also host a composer workshop spanning over several days with the NDR Radiophilharmonie Orchester.
