On 20 March 2026, A Mountain of Hope by Lil Lacy recieves its world premiere performed by Gävle Symphony Orchestra with conductor Christian Reif.
Written for the orchestra during Lacy's tenure as composer in residence, A Mountain of Hope unfolds in seven movements woven together into one continous landscape.
Inspired by the longing for connection in times of incertainty, the work moves between inner and outer landscapes. A solitary cry gradually ecpands into gathering forces of sound, as a storm, rain and mountain become parallel images of emotional and communal transformation. Individual voices accumulate like raindrios forming rivers, shaping an orchestral terrain that is both fragile and monumental, or as Lacy puts it herself, Together we can become mountains. Mountains of hope, will and voices.
With Mountain of Hope, Lacy continues her exploration of music as a shared and connective space: a place where personal vulnerability can unfold into collective strength, and where listening bevomes an act of hope.
