Park Avenue Armory’s 2026 Season opens with the New York premiere of Romeo & Juliet Suite, a contemporary reimagining of Sergei Prokofiev’s iconic ballet by celebrated choreographer, director, and filmmaker Benjamin Millepied. Performances run from March 2–21, 2026.
The site-specific dance-drama is presented in the Armory’s vast Wade Thompson Drill Hall, and pushes beyond traditional stage boundaries by blending dance, theater, and film. Romeo & Juliet Suite uses handheld cameras and live video transmission, allowing audiences to follow the action in dynamic tableaux staged both within the Drill Hall and across numerous on-site locations. This immersive approach reframes the tragic Shakespearean tale, distilling its narrative to its emotional core while embracing a fresh cinematic and choreographic language. Each performance features different casting for the star-crossed lovers, departing from traditional gender norms in a universal celebration of love.
The work’s 80-minute run time unfolds without intermission, weaving intense emotion and kinetic energy into its condensed rendering of Prokofiev’s beloved score. Romeo & Juliet Suite is presented as part of the Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Festival and is produced by Park Avenue Armory in association with L.A. Dance Project and Paris Danse.
