Joel Järventausta’s composition Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra has been nominated for the 2026 Teosto Prize, one of the Nordic region’s most significant awards for original and innovative music.
The Teosto Prize is awarded annually to Finnish works of music that were published or premiered in the previous year and recognises bold, original and innovative contributions to the musical field. This year’s nominees were selected by a preliminary panel from a wide range of works representing diverse genres.
The panel wrote that: After a swinging, appealing and speedy start, Joel Järventausta’s Fantasia pianolle ja orkesterille becomes a delicate and original work. The composition is sometimes delicate and sometimes furious, but it goes off in a surprising direction, turning inwards and movingly dissolving into silence.
Järventausta’s Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra was premiered on 29 October 2025 at Musiikkitalo in Helsinki, performed by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Ilan Volkov with Joonas Ahonen as piano soloist.
Winners of the Teosto Prize will be announced at an event at the Helsinki Music Centre on 16 April 2026.
