Maja S. K. Ratkje joins Lapland Chamber Orchestra appearing as vocal artist and music director in a portrait chamber concert in January 2026. Working at the intersection of composition and performance, Ratkje’s performances and music often draws on extended vocal technique alongside an instrumental and theatrical sensibility.
At the heart of the evening are the Finnish premieres of Tale of Lead and Frozen Light and The National Anthem of Norland Bolis -an excerpt from Ratkje’s larger project National Anthems. In that work, Ratkje invents fictional nations and their “national songs”, balancing utopia and dystopia and playing with how collective identity is staged and performed.
