On the initiative of Omer Meir Wellber, musical director of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, Israeli composer Ella Milch-Sheriff has created three songs for mezzo-soprano and orchestra to pair with Gustav Mahler’s song cycle “Des Knaben Wunderhorn“. Drei Lieder aus „Des Knaben Wunderhorn“ contrasts with Mahler’s perspective, as she focuses on a woman and themes such as loneliness, hunger and death.
Mezzo-soprano Annika Schlicht and Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra conducted by Adam Fischer present the world premiere of Sheriff’s new song cycle on November 23 and 24 at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
