In 2025-2026, Philip Glass will be honoured throughout France with a series of landmark performances. His works are presented confirming his position among the most influential composers of our time.
In Nice, audiences will experience Satyagraha at Opéra de Nice, Glass’s opera inspired by the early life of Gandhi, written in Sanskrit, and built around the principles of nonviolent resistance.
Furthermore, the Philharmonie de Paris will host three major events:
• Akhnaten, his radiant portrait of the Egyptian pharaoh, part of Glass’s famous “portrait trilogy” alongside Einstein on the Beach and Satyagraha.
• Pianist Vanessa Wagner in a recital of the Piano Etudes, a complete cycle that combines meditative repetition with dazzling virtuosity, exploring Glass’s intimate and intricate keyboard language.
• Another Look at Harmony, a rare performance of his choral masterpiece, a seminal work of minimalist music that expanded Glass’s harmonic world and became one of the cornerstones of his early output.
Closing Philip Glass’s French season, Opéra de Paris will present Satyagraha in a production by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber. The stunning cast (Anthony Roth-Costanzo, Davone Tines, and more) and The Paris Opera Orchestra and Chorus will be conducted by Ingo Metzmacher. This staging marks the work’s long-awaited entry into the Paris Opera repertoire, giving audiences a chance to experience one of Glass’s most spiritual and politically resonant operas on the national stage.
In 2025-2026, these works remind us of Glass's ability to merge his uniqueness with his universal music language.
