On August 13, 2025 EKKO wil received its World Premiere at the Copenhagen Opera Festival.
EKKO is an opera by
Josefine Opsahl and Alvina Chamberland, created together with conductor Rose Heiberg*.

Commissioned by OperArkitekterne and Teater Momentum, EKKO is an opera based on the story of Echo and NarcissusBoth cursed by Hera, Echo was condemned to forever only repeat the words of others and Narcissus to no longer love anyone more than his own reflection. In this retelling of the myth, Echo is a straight trans woman and Narcissus is a straight cis man. They are in love and their love is cursed, unable to exist in today's society.

EKKO in an opera about the nature of love and the narrow roles and limited vocal types of opera. The opera challenges our limiting ideas about art, gender, and love, and liberates the operatic genre into a new performative sound space.
