We are delighted to announce, that Edition Peters Leipzig, part of Wise Music Group, has signed an agreement with composer Márton Illés. This collaboration includes the publication of recent and future works.
Illés was born in Budapest and is one of the most internationally sought-after composers of his generation. He received basic musical training in Hungary and then studied composition, piano and music theory in Basel and Karlsruhe with Detlev Müller-Siemens and Wolfgang Rihm. His works are regularly performed internationally and include solo and chamber works but also orchestral compositions and works for music theatre. He received the SWR Symphony Orchestra Prize at the Donaueschingen Music Festival in 2017 for his orchestral piece Ez-tér. His work Lég-szín-tér was premiered by the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko in 2023.
Recently Edition Peters has published sopra l’acque for alto saxophone and mixed choir, which was premiered 2024 at Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival by NDR Vokalensemble & Asya Fateyeva (saxophone). His latest piece Saxotér for saxophone quartet and orchestra will receive its world premiere with Raschèr Saxophone Quartet and Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe led by Georg Fritzsch on June 29 in Karlsruhe.
Describing his work Illés says:
„Saxotér, a new member of the “tér” (space) series of works, exposes a saxophone quartet in the midst of a large orchestra, which often does not look like four instruments, but rather like a large super saxophone. Compared to the clarinet or other woodwind instruments, the saxophones have relatively large bodies with complex mechanics. If you operate them without even making the reed vibrate, you hear key and air noises that could put some percussion instruments in the shade. By systematically exploring the technical and tonal possibilities, the saxophones are able to provide serious competition for the four percussionists in the orchestra. This competition inspires the rest of the orchestra to contribute similar percussive, air and other noise sounds to the overall event and give it a spatial effect.”
